Picked up a 23’ Ram 1500 Laramie in May which the dealer transferred in from another dealership. I really wanted the Night Edition, Level B group, Advanced safety group (adaptive cruise is a must have for me for towing my travel trailer and long trips).

I added up my max towing payload to be 1,600# (people, dog, travel trailer, stuff). The dealer said it had 1,800# and told me to disregard the door sticker stating 1,525#. So I learned my lesson that its actually 1,525#, which after reading this site it sounds like I‘m one of many. All good though as we can leave some stuff behind, or just put it in the trailer centered over the axles.

Previous vehicle was a 22’ Ford Expedition which I liked, but after continually using the back like a truck, never using the 3rd row, and really getting annoyed by certain things like the giant infotainment which houses all the hvac controls, we decided it was just better to get a truck to have for the long run.

Already have 3.5k miles, 2k of which are towing, and I have to say I love the Ram way more than the Ford. Nothing against the Ford, I just think they are over priced for what you get, and the Ram tows the travel trailer much better than the Expedition, even though the Expedition claims higher payload and towing, but that doesn’t define vehicle dynamics, of which I like the Ram much better. Also, with the exact same routes driven on both vehicles, Ram gets 1mpg less mixed city/hwy commuting, but 2mpg better with towing. This makes sense to me with the Ecoboost turbos, and even though the Ford felt like it had more power, I’m happy with the hemi, and damn the hemi sounds soooo good!

Already installed a Mountain Top tonneau cover, and both 1k# Sumo Springs which I switched for Timber Grove airbags (which I like much better for towing).

Next upgrades will be wheels (looking at Method 20”, but hard to find strong wheels without lip bolts), tires (looking at Wildpeaks or Outpost AT), and suspension (looking at Fox 2.5” dsc w/ 2-3” lift) so if anyone has any feedback I’m all ears. Also looking forward to doing my first oil change but there is a lot of content on this site which I’ll dig into soon.

So far super happy with the Ram 1500, and I love the balance of daily driving comfort with towing capability, and just impressed with the overall refinement.

I have a 2022 Ram that looks just like yours. I currently tow a 6500 dry weight 30+ft camper. I'm looking at either doing Sumo springs or Timber Grove airbags. I see that you have switched to the airbags, can I ask why? Which is smoother riding? With the airbags, do you feel like the unloaded ride has gotten worse? Any other insight that you have would be really appreciated. BTW, we are looking at downsizing campers, I like your setup, would you recommend?
