Began about a month ago when, after a normal start, my heretofore reliable 2021 Rebel displayed a Service Shifter alert along with a CEL. Unable to electronically shift from Park. Disconnected battery for an hour, tried again, same result. Researched a bit here and other forums, discovered some folks resolved similar problem by replacing driver side Star Connector. Found one locally, but didn't fix problem. Manual shift to Neutral to load on tow truck to dealer on 12 June. Couple days later dealer reported faulty Electronic Shift Module. However, the ESM for my VIN is on national back order with no ETA. Dealer service manager admits ESM apparently doesn't exist in mopar parts system. Truck is being serviced under Mopar Extended Warranty program.
Contacted RAM customer care. Greeted by first of several, hard to understand, non-native English speakers. After some discussion, where I emphasized need to resolve this matter ahead of upcoming registration/insurance renewals and to support my avocado business, he said he would "elevate" case to next level. Next level called a couple days later, yet another, hard to understand, non-native English speaker. SSDD - he would elevate case to next level. RAM "Retention Specialist" calls today, now approaching 30 days at service center with no resolution in sight. Another non-native English speaker, though slightly easier to understand. Repeated my renewal/business speech. Asked simply how do you find a part that apparently no longer exists? He claims to have sources beyond the dealers. OK. Then he states he is having trouble contacting the dealer, would I provide my point of contact? Really?
In the meantime, researching lemon law procedure in Washington state where I bought the truck new (factory order). Anyone up that way know a good lemon law attorney?
