I have a week old 2020 Limited born on 1/2020. From the first time I opened the tailgate at the dealer getting it to register that it's closed has been problematic. Took it back to the dealer the day after I purchased it and they could find nothing wrong but relayed to me a procedure for closing the gate which seemed to work for a few days. The procedure is that whether you open the right gate or not, push forward towards the top of the right gate to make sure the sensor knows it's closed, then close the left gate with authority. The tech got this procedure from somewhere in the FCA community so I don't think that this is an isolated instance. He reported to me that one customer wanted the tailgate sensors disconnected because they were such a nuisance.

Even following the procedure what happens at least 25% or more of the time is that when you get in the cab and begin to drive off and the open tailgate warning appears and all your rear parking and safety sensors are disabled. Today I had to jump out and back in twice and then just drove off with the warning.

My dealer is 50 min away and I am going to again have it looked at but I feel that this is a Safety Recall waiting to happen. Someone is going to get tired of jumping out and reclosing the gate and then have an accident because the rear sensors were disabled.

Anyone else?

I dont have an MFT, but there is at least one thread with a few that say they have to close it way harder than they would like to to avoid the warning.

We have the MFT on our Limited, and standard tailgate on our Laramie. I definitely have to close the MFT with more authority than the non MFT. But I'm pretty much used to it now. I haven't seen the atilgate ajar warning for a few weeks now.

i would get the warning often when i first got the truck but I either got used to closing the tailgate hard or the system broke in/adapted. The issue of the warning coming up all the time seemed to go away with time. never did anything to it or had it looked at.
