Hello All,

I just got a 2021 1500 with a multifunction tailgate. It was a feature I really wanted for its convenience. I never considered though if the latch between the barn doors would hold while loading an atv onto the truck bed. Also if the tailgate needs to be open and the atv tires rest on the tailgate while in transport. I’m sure the cables are more then strong enough, it’s the latch on the split barn door that worries me. If anyone has any experience or thoughts on this it would be much appreciated.

I think you should be fine. The weight of the ATV is distributed to the tires which will put it on the outside of the tailgate where it's hinged. If all the weight was centered on the MFT split, there might be an issue. Just my two cents...

The MFT is more than capable of supporting the heaviest ATV you could get in there, even if the tires are on separate sides of the split. You should have zero concerns with such a load. That kind of latch is used as a crash safety element in doors for a reason - they are often stronger than the door itself. And remember, when used as a standard tailgate, it’s connected to the carrier (beefy) on the bottom of the short side as well.

if you want to break the MFT, drop 2 thousand pounds on just the crease between the two halves. Otherwise, you will have no problems.
