I spent quite a bit of time earlier searching for a definitive location for installing a mirror tap for a radar detector in my newly purchased 2025 1500 Laramie, to no avail. I’m sure there’s a thread that describes it but I could not find it.
I’ve seen videos and had a really good idea of where to tap into the power from my mirror but none of them showed my extract location.
Turns out that it was even easier to find and the install took me maybe 5 minutes. It was the easiest mirror tap that I’ve ever done.
Pull off the shroud that goes around the whole mirror base as well as the center piece that is vertical directly behind the mirror. I had to use a dash trim removal tool for that since I didn’t want to risk scratching anything.
Once you get that off you’re half way there. The power is plugged in directly into and behind the mirror. I’d advise wiggling the plug and pulling forward to free it up so you can see behind the plug. The negative plugs into the black wire and the positive plugs into the yellow/pink wire for switched ignition power.
Plug those in and verify it powers up your detector. Once done just stabilize the mirror tap wire so it stays put, put the mirror shroud back on and you got power for your radar detector.
Hope this helps someone looking for this info.
