Has anyone heard of various parts on a 2025 Dodge Ram 1500, or similar models, having parts such as rack & pinion steering that is married to the vehicles VIN? I was told they could not remove a new one from one truck and put it in another, and the reason was to deter selling parts on stolen vehicles. The new factory installed part was programmed into the onboard computer. New parts could als be installed and programmed. #1, why would the dealer or manufacturer care? #2 this would prevent the dealer from swaping a part to verify if one was bad causing wasted time in troubleshooting and ordering parts. #3 I have seen no marketing data on this as well and it makes sense that they would if it was the case.

Very common. And it is on the older Rams (not Dodge anymore FYI). But the VIN can be changed on some parts. But not all.
