Time for new tires on my 2019 Limited, air suspension, with the big 22" wheels and fat tires. Most of my driving is highway and city and for my mission, I have very little off the pavement. I am looking for comfort, quiet, and a nice ride. A "caddilac" sort of truck mission. Even better if the wet dry traction improves over the OEM Eagles.
  • Surprisingly, the OEM Goodyear Eagle Touring tires performed very well in terms of quiet and driving under most conditions. Not the best traction, and also they were well worn and vibrating by 29K miles. Very short life.
  • I have always and good luck with Michelin tires (buy once, cry once) and was planing Premier LTX, but heard they were being discontinued in the 285/45R22 size. But the Michelin Defender LTX came out in the right size and load rating also, with somewhat better mileage rating. But after putting a set of Defenders on, I am less than impressed: they sort of wander oddly on the highway and they make a surprising amount of sizzle, whizzing, high frequency noise on concrete surfaces - enough that deaf me can even hear. The Goodyears (IIRC) were dead silent but gone in < 30K.
  • I called the tire shop and told them I was not very happy with these, and could they find a set of Premier LTXs in the pipeline to swap. They're on the way. They said "well the Premier's are even noisier according the ratings", but this may be just bs.
  • I also called Michelin's Tire Concierge 800 number to see what they had to say. Not sure what to believe on that end as the "concierge" said that the Defender LTX was not really Michelin's recommendation for my truck, the Premier LTX was, but admitted that the Premier was being discontinued in my size. They did go on to say that the comfort rating on the Premier was better than the Defender. But then they also said they have a 60 day satisfaction guarantee and if I wasn't happy with their tires, they'd swap them for any tire/model of equal or lesser value. That's pretty good.
Anyone have any input/experience on the Defender LTX vs the Premier LTX? Almost went back to the Eagle Touring but couldn't stomach having a set of lumpy tires in another 25K.

Thanks.

No comments huh? I came here to post a very similar question. What did you end up with and how do you like it?

I am extremely happy with the Goodyear Eagles that came with the truck.
Quiet, comfortable tires, with great grip on wet roads. Not sure there's anything better in that size to tell you the truth.

I just wish they lasted a bit longer? Most people seem to be getting under 30K miles on them

I got about 28K on my Goodyear Eagles. I really liked how quiet and true-tracking that tire was on the highway. I think traction was not so hot but a good tire overall. I think that is pretty short life compared to the Michelins with a purported 60K 70K life.

H have had the Michelin Premier LTX for a bit after the Defender LTX. They are a significant improvement in noise and "wander" for lack of a better term. And if they get the 50-60K they claim, even better.
