Light on Mirrors? Is this a new feature or been there a while?

So I have finally picked up my new limited and have 150 miles on it already. The other night I was showing it off and someone asked me what the lens was on my tow mirrors that pointed backwards was. I had no idea. We started to mess around with buttons on the head light knob and found they were lights that point backwards and they are super bright. I did not see this any where as a feature when I looking at the trucks so is this new to 2021 or has this been there the whole time and nobody talks about it? I am guessing its for backing up at night or at least that's what I used them for and they work great. Very nice feature.

My 2019 Laramie has them, too, on the regular (non-tow) mirrors. They’re called puddle lights, presumably because they prevent you from accidentally stepping into a puddle getting into or out of your truck.

They turn on when you unlock your truck via the fog or door handle, and stay on for a bit when exiting the vehicle. I don’t think they illuminate when reversing, but I’ll have to test that later.

No these are different from my puddle lights. They only turn on from the button that I can tell any way and they point backwards and down slightly. I should have took a picture of them but wasn't thinking about it. Maybe tonight when I get home I can.

Oh interesting. Please do post a photo when you get a chance. Now I’m curious.

Are they the side lights that alert drivers in other lanes that you are signaling to change lanes?

I believe that is standard on tow mirrors. I think the idea is that it shines back on the trailer at night so you can see it in the mirrors.

Ok so I finally found something in the manual about them. I guess these are trailer spotter lights. There is not much info on them and they come on when I turn on the cargo light. I have the tow mirrors so I am guessing they are just on them and not the regular mirrors. Either way they make backing up in the dark way nicer because you can see directly to the side of your truck because they are mounted so far forward and not on the back.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe these are a new addition for the 21's, along with the tow mirrors having the surround view cameras for the first time.

I saw something about them somewhere after I ordered my truck, made me even happier that I ordered the tow mirrors. Can't wait to try them out!

Cool... I got the tow mirrors too. So on each mirror is one manual adjust and the other is remote from inside or are they both remote?

Both adjust from the inside and power fold but only the big portion of the mirror the smaller mirror is manual on both sides.

They are called the “Auxiliary Reverse Lamps”. They are new for the tow mirrors for ‘21 1500’s. They work in conjunction with your bed lighting and provide extra light when backing up.
