Hey all, new to this forum and looking for advice.
I have a 2020 Ram Rebel and I experienced lifter and cam failure at 114,000 miles due to excessive idle time. I recently paid $17,000 for a full engine replacement at my local dealership. (They did not want to replace only the lifters and cam due to liability of possible metal shavings circulating within the block). Now, I want to preserve my new engine so I don't run into the same problem down the road. That being said, I am not mechanically inclined, but I have done a little bit of research and found out that lifter failure is not uncommon with the 5th gen Rams. Excessive idle times and low RPM's lead to inadequate lubrication, which in turn leads to lifter failure. I follow Reignited on YouTube (a mechanic who worked for Dodge for some many years) and he explains the Hemi-tick, lifter failure, and possible solutions. His solutions mostly revolve around an oil pump upgrade. Either a Hellcat oil pump, or a Melling High Volume oil pump. From what I know, the Melling HV oil pump produces 20% more flow.
Now, the million dollar question... Has anyone upgraded to a Melling High Volume oil pump? And if so, did you encounter any issues?
I am only concerned about the oil pump sucking the pan dry at high RPM's (such as merging onto the freeway)
