Hello All,
Looking to purchase some recovery gear to have in my truck. What kinetic rope and shackles do you all recommend?

Thanks

I have the ARB weekender recovery kit. Has served me well. Im sure there may be better options out there depending on your intended use

I have Rhino tie down straps and they have worked well. I've been checking out their kinetic ropes last night.
I’ve had them 1 winter and worked well the one time I needed to assist some one.

I’m a big fan of bubba rope. Didn’t even know this company existed, until I attended an off road recovery class.

I would keep to soft shackles for safety. No reason to use old school shackles these days.

Their mother company makes rigging supplies for industrial and military use. The U.S. Coast Guard uses their gear for towing duty. Good reputation in the industry.

I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the options. I like Bubba Rope, because they are manufactured in the USA. Rhino is a great US family owned company, but their gear is made overseas. Doesn’t mean it’s not great stuff.

I just prefer, and am willing to pay a little extra, for US manufacturing. I know not everyone feels the same way.

Good on you, carrying recovery gear. So many do not. I was at Port Aransas Beach just a couple weeks back. A dually Ford was stuck. He had no recovery gear. It took 3 pulls to get him on firmer sand. I had to talk him into airing down, so he wouldn’t get stuck again.

I have a local friend that works for a company that builds cables and straps for rigging. They arent kinetic straps, but they have a high break strength. I don't have any of his stuff as I had already bought the ARB kit before I knew he sold them.

Probably would make great tow straps.

I don't have any kinetic ropes/soft shackles right now (although I have the Rhino USA ones saved to buy on Amazon later).
The Rhino USA recovery straps, tree straps, and snatch block have all been very good to me when I had them in the past. Only gave them to a buddy when I was without a truck for a period before getting my Ram.
Definitely recommend them for quality budget gear.

I’m a little late to the party but I use soft shackles primary for recoveries because if / when they fail there isn’t a lot of kinetic energy coming back at ya.

I have mostly Yankum stuff but Project Farm came out with his review after I had already made my investment.

I have a few short soft shackles with at least two long soft shackles in my RamBox.

The plastic dip makes them bigger in diameter and more stiff but I have at least one long shackle with plastic dip to go around a lower A arm that might have some sharp curves.

I really like the Yankum 2" or 2.5” Hitch Receiver Recovery Point…yes they are pricy but your bumper will fail before they do.

I do have at least two Columbus McKinnon Anchor Shackles (Crosby makes good stuff too) in my truck because sometimes iron shackles work best.

I don’t use cheap Chinese iron shackles that might come undone with cataclysmic results.……raise your hood for a last line of defense.

The pro riggers use Columbus McKinnon to lift bridges into place so if they are good enough for them then they will work for me.

I go with the biggest iron shackle that will fit the hole of my hitch receiver recovery point.

Add in an Offset Winch Snatch Ring to the mix for a bridal.

You need to watch a few YouTube videos using Kenetic Ropes before you attempt at extracting someone who is stuck.

Also in the back of your noodle you should aways be thinking perhaps this one is really stuck and we should call in the pros because if something becomes undone someone is going to be killed or seriously injured.

Lots of good recommendations in comments. I second the project Farm kinetic rope testing. Might consider recovery products made here in the USA. Specifically, the ones that identify their failure points such as working load limit and minimum breaking strength. Beware any Amazon specials.
