Was a 5 consecutive Chevy Suburban owner until RAM introduced the EcoDiesel in 2014. Back then I was hoping for a duramax Suburban but got tired of waiting and started researching RAM 1500. Had never owned a pickup. Placed a factory order for a 2015 Longhorn just the way I wanted it configured. 4x4, 3.55 anti-spin diff, Black, no sunroof, full length side steps, air suspension, full towing package, skid plate package, etc. It showed up about 4 months later missing the Black paint that was changed to the Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl and the skid plates were not available yet. Tuned it with the pre-EPA Green Diesel Engineering hot tune/transmission, added tonneau cover, soft open tailgate, full bedrug, and scangauge. Drove it for 137k with very few problems that cost me money. They sent me a check for $3500 due to the emission settlement and they sent me a check for $6500 for the HPP failure that I paid for out of pocket at 101k miles. At 128k miles they replaced the HPP and FI system again due to the recall. Sounds like a lot but mostly tires and oil changes for 10 years. I bought the $179 oil change package that got me the first 10 oil/filter changes which was a huge bargain since they charge $175 for the 2.5 gallons of T6 and a $56 filter! Other costs include a battery that a dealer said I needed (doubtful) 2 key fobs that stopped working and the leaking rear air springs that I replaced for $125 and my labor.
I could not have been happier with the 2015 - I kept it well past what I was usually doing for my Burbs.
When the time came, the 3rd Gen EcoDiesels was the only choice that made since. The baby Duramax was available over at GM but I had no appetite to switch back. The build quality and the interior of the RAM had me.
The time never really came but one day I did a quick nationwide search on the car sites to see what 3rd Gen Ecodiesels were out there. Low and behold, my original dealer had a White 2023 Limited 4x4 EcoDiesel with only 16k miles. Went to see it and brought it home! It was like it had not ever be used. I think only the driver seat had been used. Still has 14 months of the factory warranty and has a 10yr/100k mile powertrain warranty supplied under the certified used program. For some reason the left rear taillight was replaced at a cost of $2500 (ouch) during the reconditioning process. Oil, oil filter, fuel filter, cabin filter, air filter all replaced during reconditioning. I added a tonneau cover, a begrug (love them) and a full ceramic paint treatment. Things on my list include a factory trailer brake controller, factory bed lights, a tune to disable the engine damaging EGR. Would like to AlphOBD the DRLs and stop the seat belt chimes (I wear them always on the road but have a farm when the chime is annoying).
Happy to join the community and I will contribute if I have good content.
BTW I sold the 2015 to a guy that loved as much as me! Should be in a good home.
