Is it possible to separate the grille components (without damage)?

Picture stolen from another thread; Has anyone attempted to separate the assembled grille pieces? Is it possible to do so without damage? I'm assuming it's held together with lots of interlocking plastic clips and tabs?

I'm considering buying the surround (second from top) and having it painted black. I'd then have to disassemble my components to install the new painted surround.

Yes it is possible its just a pain because there are a million plastic tabs but nothing too horrible i suggest plastic trim tools too help keep the tabs separated as you work along the grill
