Hi everyone, I have a BigHorn with the Hurricane and wanted to do an early oil change, which I did. I asked the service dept on how to make sure the oil monitor got reset and was showing the correct amount of oil as there is nothing in the manual about this. They stated you leave the key on while you are draining the oil so the monitor knows the oil has been drained. Then you fill with oil, start the truck and drive or idle until the oil reaches at least 180 degrees. Then shut off the engine and turn the key back on, wait 5 minutes then read the gauge. I did this procedure, but I always leave 1/2 quart out at first as it seems you never get it all out. Then you can top it off to make sure it isn't over filled.
The monitor was EXACT, it read 1/2 quart low yet, perfect I thought. I added the rest of the oil (1/2 qt) and it has never showed the rest of the oil being added. It still shows 1/2 qt low even though I know I have 7.5 qts in the engine. Anyone find any info on the correct way, or a different way to do this? I will still be able to tell if my oil level is going down but it bugs my that it isn't perfect. By the way, CEL is on due to misfiring one morning and it's going into the dealer Friday. God help me....

Thanks!

I know this is an old thread but I changed my oil at a thousand miles on my Bighorn hurricane standard output yesterday. I filled it up with 7.5 quarts and changed the filter ran the truck until it was over 180° oil temperature shut it off turned it to run and the oil level is one notch below Max basically the third bar up from the minimum so it's in the safe range and I know I added the right amount of oil so I'm not really worried about it. When I got it from the dealership originally when I bought it it showed this and then a week later it went up to full

the sensor should periodically check it and adjust the gauge as needed Is what I have been told. I have not changed my oil yet on the HO so I can't confirm anything.

What brand of oil are you folks using in your HO engines. I have traditionally used Amsoil but they do not show a listing for recommended oil for the Hurricane HO

Amazing how much simpler a good ole’ cheap dipstick would have been.🙄

And a year ago the sentiment on this site was either people don't know how to use a dipstick or were too lazy to do so and thus it made sense to replace it with an electronic sensor. While I didn't mind the addition of a sensor, I argued the dipstick should have remained.
