Just purchased a new ‘20 1500 Limited 2WD , Eco diesel , 8sp, 3.21, air suspension, 22” wheels. - that the dealership consensus was that it would easily handle my 7500# TT (26’ East to West Alta) with Blue Ox Sway Pro WDH. ( cat scaled the TT= 7300# loaded to go) GVW= 13200#
My wife is not happy with the ride - Front end feels like it is all over the road at 60mph.
Is it the:
22” wheels
Air suspension
hitch adjustments
ride height - on highway is “Aero”
HELP

Not a towing expert, but most likely the wheels and hitch configuration. Switch out those 22s to at most 20s towing that heavy.

Just to prime for the experts to jump in, post your cat scale sheet and the a pic of the yellow door sticker with the weights.

@devildodge
Just a guess but could be you’re tongue heavy on the trailer and the WDH isn’t moving enough weight to the steer axle. You’ve got the tires aired up toward max load, right?

It's not the wheels or the air suspension. Sounds like your WDH isn't set up correctly if the front end of the truck feels light.

I tow a 7500 lb 25' boat all over the place with mine (air suspension and 22' wheels) and it does very well, and no WDH setup on a boat trailer.

I'd get it on the scale to verify some weights and take a look at the setup. Also, remember that the air suspension will adjust continually, so there is a procedure to follow when setting up a WDH on these trucks.

9,500 lb GVWR TT is near the limits of a 1500

It is likely your WDH setup. Was it done with tire jack mode on? Are you towing in Aero or Normal?

You only posted your combined scale weights. But what are the individual axle weights, loaded vs unloaded

Just to echo what others have said, it definitely sounds like you do not have enough weight on the steer axle. You'll need to take the truck and trailer to the scales to get the WDH properly set up.

Thanks for all that. I posted photo of the Cat Scale and the door sticker.
How will I get the scale operator to allow me to set up the WDH while on the scale? Also I have never disabled the Air Suspension while hooking up the trailer, that sounds like something I should do.

Something to consider besides weight is the surface area of your TT. Wind resistance on all that surface area makes it "heavier" the faster you go.

Also, the OEM rear sway bar is very soft. Many members here have upgraded to a Hellwig bar

The white/yellow payload sticker is just to the right of the one you posted.

They won’t let you do it on the scale; drive off, adjust, drive back on. Re-weighs are only $2

Settings - Suspension- Tire Jack Mode

It might be worth your time to take your truck and trailer to an RV dealership to have them properly set up your WDH for you. When I purchased my Equalizer, the store had me come there with the truck and they installed it onto the trailer, and then the tech spent more time fine tuning everything to make sure everything is where it should be.

The OEM rear sway bar on the truck? Where is a good starting point to find an installer on that Hellwig?

I suppose any suspension shop could do it, but it honestly takes about 20 minutes to install, not including finding missing sockets.

I put the rear Helwig on my 2018 Expedition for our long vacation trips towing the boat (around 1200 miles round trip) and it changed the entire highway experience. No more sway when passing a tractor trailer, no more wagging when changing lanes. The bars take around 4-6 weeks to get, but they are worth every penny in my opinion.

All that said, I would still start with getting the hitch system properly set up first. With a good WDH, you shouldn't be seeing much if any sway or wagging at all.

I tow a slightly heavier trailer than that, and it's a 30' long box that is easily pushed around by a light breeze. This post is an image of my CAT scale receipt. Note that my drive axle and trailer axle are within spitting distance of yours, but my extra weight is on the steer axle. Long story short: dial in that WDH more and shift a couple hundred lbs to your front axle.
