Just about to pull the pin on a 2020 Rebel / Sport. Two things, one.. It's marketed as a Rebel. Chrysler Vin sheet has it as a Rebel. Carfax has it as a Rebel.... But there is no Rebel badging. If all shows SPORT.

Question 2. 3.21 or 3.92. I know the difference and which id prefer, but the build out sheet shows 3.21, dealer is advertising 3.92. I trust the build sheet before the dealer.

Help!!!!

I'm assuming you're in Canada? If so, this link will help, make sure to read all the way down.

funny in my area "SPORT" models show up from time to time and they call them Laramie's but if it has sport on the upper glove box it's a Canadian model if you got the sport package in the U.S the only place it has a sport call out is on the rear of the bed

its canada version of the rebel, but it can come with or without the 3.92 gears, its usually an option for that canadian version, but i believe it changed after the 2019 on some.

I am not in Canada, but it is a Canadian truck.

Not sure if its still a thing, but a while back I remember Canadian trucks registered in the US not getting any warranty, if that matters to you (2020 may have some powertrain warranty depending on timing and mileage)

One of the reasons I bought a Rebel is the 3.92 gearing. I would trust putting it on a lift and counting driveshaft vs wheel turns compared to trusting one of two pieces of paper which disagree.

My morning at "work" has been consumed with this Sport / Rebel conundrum. It has been a pretty interesting fact finding mission. From what I have been finding, the Sport is its own beast. It appears to be a mashup between a Rebel and Laramie. It does not have the Bilstein shocks or the skid plate of the US Rebel, but everything is blacked out with ZERO chrome (which I love), so its like a blacked out Laramie. I do not like that the buildout sheet / Carfax / etc show it as a Rebel, because it is not.

My bigger concern, which isnt that much of a concern, is the 3.21 vs 3.92. I plan on buying a travel trailer at some point in the future. With what I can find, the 3.21 has a towing capacity of approx. 8500-8800 pounds, vs the 3.92 with north of 10000 pounds. The trailer that I plan on buying will be well short of the limit for the 3.21, but its one of those things that I would rather have it and not need it than need it an not have it.

Do any of you have experience towing with the 3.21 gears? Is it really that HUGE of a difference?

Thanks for the assist here guys. Glad to be here!

In Canada they are two separate options . The Rebel looks like a Rebel from anywhere else , the Sport doesn’t have regular bumpers they’re sort of molded bumpers and body color . The Rebel in Canada looks like mine in the pic < to the left .

This is wild. I don't understand why it VINs out as a Rebel, when it is clearly not. Either way, its a cool truck and I am looking forward to it!

I've towed my Alumacraft Navigator thousands of miles with both a 2015 with 3.21 gears and my current 2021 with 3.92 gears. There is no difference in towing or MPG. Somewhere there is a thread that breaks it down simply, that you are trading a low gear for a high gear when going from 3.21 to 3.92. I can confirm that my 3.92 drives more like it came with a granny gear and then revs higher at highway speed. The 3.21 will tow in 6th or 7th gear regardless, as will the 3.92, depending on how hilly the roads are where you drive.

If you like the truck, get it regardless of the gearing. You aren't going to be maxing this truck out.

3.21 vs 3.92 I dont think it's that big of deal.
I'm a bit of a torque junky, and this is a huge deal to me.

From the specs and the OPs intended use, 3.21 looks fine. I drove both and chose a Rebel for the 3.92 gearing, and like that I have to be a bit more careful with the throttle in the rain. 3.92 will also cost a bit in MPG, I chose for the experience. This time, fun won.

Way back (well, 25 years back), I went through the same decision process for a GMC Yukon XL 2500 4WD (Suburban). 3.73 vs 4.11 with the 8600 engine. On that one, I chose 3.73 and never had a problem with anything I did with the rig. Not choosing 4.11 did leave some fun not explored but most of my miles were city miles and the fuel economy hit for the deeper gears did not make sense at that time. It towed any RV just fine.

So no wrong answer out of the gate, OP needs to drive both and decide. More off-the-line torque or better fuel economy, since it seems both will serve for what is needed. The question is what is wanted.
