I noticed in the truck bed (sides) a series of hexagon holes. Eight on each side. If I wanted to fasten something to the side of the bed is there special fastening hardware? What have others done?

Those are for threaded inserts to bolt on the factory bed rails. I installed the threaded inserts to install molle panels in my bed shown here

Called nutserts.

I used these to attach some bed rails I got from a Toyota Tundra. Also add them on the additional holes for some extra tie down rings or to attach tools, etc later.

You can put these in with a extra bolts, nut and a couple washers, but it's a pain. I recommend getting the gun (picture a larger rivet gun).
