I decided to start this new back window thread because I had my leaking back window replaced yesterday and wanted to share the pics and story. I realize I am not the first and this is old news to some. But I thought these pics were startling to say the least. A testament to the absolute horrific workmanship by Ram, in my case a 2019 1500 Limited. According to Safelite mine has been leaking since it left the factory. This is evidenced by corrosion behind the seat, 2 RF Hubs failed and wet carpet and pooling back there. The first RF was about 2 years ago and was replaced under warranty because they said it wasn't due to water intrusion. The second I got covered by insurance. Which also paid for the carpet which the dealer and I decided not to do and used the money for the window that insurance and Ram wouldn't pay for. Dealer estimated the carpet cost and insurance paid it but they also said it wasn't 100% necessary.

Pic1 shows molding with no glue/sealer visible at all for quite a distance. This where the water was coming in they say.
Pic3 shows another area missing glue.
Pic4 pic is corroded rear slider motor.
Pic5 pic shows just a little tiny area that actually had glue/sealer that bonded, the rest shown there was not bonded at all.

Now you would think this would be a flood of water but it actually was trickling in because I never even noticed it and I checked often. But obviously I wasn't checking correctly or in the wrong places. It was more of a torrent from Hurricane Milton where it saw 60 sustained wind and 90 mph gusts and 10+ inches of rain.

My truck was not included in the Ram extension of warranty for this glass for some reason.

How the F can the factory screw this up so badly and let something like this out the door. Very disappointing. Safelite did the install correctly and I will not have a leak again. They said you actually have to rough up the smooth surfaces so the sealer will bond. Kind of like semi-gloss paint needs a good primer or it won't stick properly.

Please ask questions if you want. I know a lot of you use Permatex and I told the Safelite techs that. They said that is probably not a good idea but didn't say why.

Did you have them replace with another Mopar unit or one of their aftermarket units? If it is one of their aftermarket sliders be prepared for a bunch of issues. Within two years the one they put on my truck cracked in 4 locations and had a worse leak than the previous slider had. Also the upper and lower gloss black trim on the outside of the slider had turned to a matte finish. Had them replace it a second time under warranty with factory glass and luckily no issues so far.

I am not sure what we are looking at there. Anytime you remove fixed glass you are going to have roughness around the edges. As far as the leak, it would be more interesting to see the extent of the rust and corrosion. The surface of the motor for the rear window doesn't really tell us anything - these motors are usually not finished and you get light surface corrosion like that - it does not affect operation. Very common when you remove a window regulator of any sort.

In any event, glad you got it fixed. The job itself is not difficult, it is just a question of getting the seat out (pain) and the rear cab trim and roof liner without breaking anything.
