What are folks using to secure groceries and other similar items in back of truck. Not looking for a mat solution, more a diy or aftermarket divider or lidless box

Wood

I’ve cut various 2x4 2x6 2x8 to use as dividers. Ok the short box they also can be used front to back to divide left/right

I’ve sprayed them all with paint similar to truck liner, and put holes in them for tie down spots etc.
I usually have the 2x8 in the truck but a 2x4 will go a long way towards keeping things from moving on you

I had plans on making additions to these to further divide the part between that and the tailgate but maybe some other day

A Decked system works great but it is expensive

AMP Research BedXtender... works perfect! There is a rebranded Ram version too...

I know this doesn't help you, but I can't help but write it...RamBoxes FTW! Or at least they were, pre-COVID. Now Amazon Fresh and Instacart are our primary grocery-getters.

I got used to using the back seat area when I lived in Florida. No way would groceries survive in the bed. I've continued to use the back seat area. We go solo now (Covid) so no one is ever in the back.

Ramboxes were in my wish list for this truck.
Anything the dealer had with them (not many) didn’t come anywhere near close to everything else I wanted.
It’s really the only thing I wanted that I didn’t get. I figured I’d use that space more than I’d need the whole bed. Of all the options it was the one I could live without the most.

I have used the rear seating as well, but I was at Home Depot and picked up a large plastic storage container and put the plastic bags with groceries in it. I use a strap to keep it from sliding around. Cheap and easy

Think I will start with this but instead of wood use a pvc material for better water resistance

There are slots in the sides of the bed to slide the wood in - i’m sure pvc would work fine as well if you stay within that size
I used pine and sprayed it. Moisture shouldn’t be an issue. Also have a cover.
But then again. It’s cheap material. If moisture gets to it, it would take years to render it useless, and it’s easily replaceable

When items are too big for the RamBox, I put them in a milk crate (6 gal size) that I bought online. I keep a couple crates in the box for odd items. when we get home I carry the whole crate into the house, reducing trips to unload. The crate will also fit on the floor behind the front seat, so it’s versatility is a plus.

I personally use my Ramboxes and my bed divider but would also recommend milk crates/bungees. My dad keeps that set up in the back of his truck secured to one of the lower tie downs. Works well for them. I use a long bungee frequently when taking the garbage or securing my 5 gallon gas tank. Could also be helpful for things like drinks or charcoal I'd imagine.

This is my exact method. Rambox bed divider and milk crates. Also have a tonneau cover. I don't really need the bungees but I always have some stored in the bedside rambox storage.

I have just picked up a 2021 and it too has the tie down rail system. With those nothes(45 degrees?), what is the max size board that will fit? I would like to use an 2x8. Also what length did you go with?

Thanks,

If you lift up the rear seats you will see plastic hooks attached to the underside. These are suppose to be used to attach grocery bags to. But that doesn't seem to work well all the time, especially since you don't get plastic bags from grocery stores anymore in New York state.

For me I actually like the configuration of the older Rams before they went to the flat floor.

Best regards,
Dusty
