Hi Guys,

I am based in Australia, and hoping someone could help me.
I recently had the fuel pump fail in my 2021 DT Laramie, the vehicle is out of warranty so I imported a complete genuine fuel pump/sender assembly from Rockauto in the states, a local mechanic has removed the tank and refitted with the new unit, it is just one plug harness to the assembly so you cannot get it wrong, they phoned me to let me know the car runs and drives but the dash is lit up like a Christmas tree and the fuel gauge (needle gauge) is not reading. They have spent the last couple of days trying to clear the codes with no success, I have not been down there myself yet but plan to on Monday. They already have my bypass cable, Has anyone else had a similar experience or any thoughts on what could be done to solve it. Thanks.

Unfortunately I have no advice, but I will comment how cool that landscape looks. Always wanted to visit Australia! Cheers!

How old is the battery, has its voltage been tested?

They have put a new battery in it

Check the fuse box in the engine bay, make sure everything is fine, including all the bolt connections are tight. Disconnect the battery, open the door and make sure the lights turn off, close the door and reconnect the battery.

Then wait overnight or several hours before starting again.

Not much to it. This diagram is for my 2019.

Could be that the sender is defective (as long as the harness and the connector are not damaged) Measure it with an ohm meter or swap in the old one, it is a serviceable component.

Thanks for the detailed info, We have checked the fuel sender with Ohm meter, all seems to be with in spec. the car is running fine but still have no fuel gauge. We have managed to clear all codes apart from "P0463 Fuel level sensor 1, permanent- generic". Any ideas on what I can try next?

My 2014 limited ate two fuel pumps. Both started with the fuel sender. I would double check the connection around back of the fuel tank for the evap. Also if it's the 5.7 you will want to also check the evap solenoid in the front of the engine.

On the first fuel pump I did it myself and dropped the tank. All was going well untill the install and BIL accidentally forgot to connect up the evap on the tank and on the way back up the hose caught and snapped the nipple off. $800 for a new tank later and all the light went away...

Second time the shop forgot to plug up the rear connections and I didn't feel like trusting them again so I got the two solenoids for like $50 (thank God for auto parts shops) come to find out both were fine but the. Connect in the back on the tank for the evap (electrical) was unplugged..

So apparently those are easy enough to forget and cheap to fix if the issue. I wish you all the luck in getting it figured out!

It sure sounds like a wiring/connection problem, since the sender portion was working before the pump replacement.
I would triple check all the connections and ring out the wiring, also look for any pushed back pins in the connectors.
