Just sold my 17 rebel to move to a new to me 21 rebel. Bought it with 100k miles, now at 114k miles.

I just developed an issue where the truck will not take fuel, gas keeps backing up in the fill neck. I’ve tired twisting the fuel nozzle and it doesn’t help. I did use the little white nozzle under the passenger seat and while I could fill up a tad quicker without it cutting off too much and it would over flow.

Where should I start? With it being 21 with 114k miles I’m SOL on warranty.

Does it do it at every pump? There is a known issue with the filler neck. If you overfill it, fuel can get in the vent tube. Some said they did redesign it to fix the issue. Not sure how true that is. But others have fixed it by removing the filler neck and cleaning it out. Then not over filling again.

Search "fuel fill issue or problems" or some combination there of.

My 2020 just started this crap! Tried multiple stations, same thing, the pump shuts off immediately. Been searching through all the posts, seems it could be filler neck, tank or canister vent

Mine did this on the first fill up but never again. I even went back to the exact pump that it happened on. It was like it didn't like maximum flow into the neck. I started setting the lock at half and no problem since. That first fill up was painful. Shutoff every few seconds.

I have a new to me 21 and have the same problem. Seems like it backs up at the second flapper in the filler hose neck and shuts off multiple times. I have been slow filling for a couple gallons and then it will let me go to full flow on the nozzle. Not ideal, but works for now. Not sure if it will work for you.

I assume that you are trying to keep the nozzle perfectly straight and at the right depth?

What you describe is a common problem with some 5th gen Rams and it's caused by a clogged fuel tank vent. The fuel tank vent is molded into the fuel tank so the fix is to replace the fuel tank.

Could also be the fuel vent line is plugged. Ram warns in the owners manual to not overfill the tank. When the pump first kicks off stop fueling and put the handle away. Don't try to pull the handle again to get that last 1/2 gallon in the tank.

IDK I got 12,900 milles on my 2020 bighorn/Longhorn, and it does it even when the tank is down to 1/4 full. Has soon has I start pumping. So it ain't the last 1/2 gal I am trying to get in. The guy I bought it from told me he had the problem from day one. It is a PITA but just one more problem besides the radio and Uconnect. WIsh I never sold my 2011 which only had 32,000 on it.

Mine does the same thing. Never "topped off to get an extra 1/2/ gallon" Is there a solution if the vent line is plugged other than new fuel tank

Sounds like I’ll have to start cheapest options and go forward. This was actually the first time I tried to put gas in it above a quarter of a tank. I’ll run it down then see what it does.

Also I never over fill after that first click.
