Folding mirrors makes squeaks when closing, anyone else notice this?

I just noticed recently my passenger mirror makes a really noticeably squeaking noise when closing. I wonder if it's an easy fix, like spraying some lubricant between the pivot points?

I rather fix it myself and take it to the dealer unless the gears are stripped I doubt is the case.

I would definitely try lube, mine are rarely closed but don't squeak though there is a motorized noise of course. I can't see stripped gears making a squeaking noise but I could be wrong.

If it's hot and humid out where you live that's probably even more of an indication that you need a bit of lube?

I suspect that over time, the rubber bushings between the two haves will dry out and squeak. I use mine often, so probably more susceptible, and it has become hotter for sure.

I'll try some dry lube spray and see if that helps.

My driver's side one started doing this exact thing last week. I hit it with some Liquid Wrench Lubricating Oil (the current flavor of lube in my garage), and folded the mirrors a few times. This is where I learned you can only fold/unfold the mirrors ten times or so before the truck cuts you off for a while. (They refused to work until the next key cycle/engine start.)

The mirror was still a tad squeaky, but it was better. I came out the following morning to go to work, and the squeak was gone.

Well, I'm almost ashamed to report that the fix was this easy and almost not worth doing a whole thread about, but maybe it can help someone in the future. :)

But the fix was super easy, just sprayed some lube between the two halves of the mirrors (easiest in closed position) and that fixed the squeak after a few turns. I used WD-40 Specialist Silicone Spray, which is supposed to be waterproof, dries leaving a dust resistant film, and won't damage rubber or plastic.

So if you got that squeaking mirror, a little lube should fix it.
