So I ordered one of the 2Low Unlock kits from BD Diesel
2 Low UnLoc Dodge 4wd - 1500 2009-2022 / 2500 2014-2022 / 3500 2013-2022 / 4500-5500 2019-2022 - 1030705
and when it arrives and the weather becomes fit to be doing
such things, I'll be looking for a place to mount the switch.
They send a little bracket in the kit, but that seems sort of clunky,
and I'm hoping for something that integrates into the dashboard
a little better. Looking at a couple things initially.
First, the gear and drive mode selector panel appears to have an
empty place in the lower left. But I also know this thing has an
interlock and drive system associated with it, so I don't know what
might be behind the spot that looks blank from the front. Does
anyone have photos of this assembly or experience with it that
might be relevant?
Another is the "upfitter switch" route. It could work, but that
usually puts the added switched outputs under the hood and
I'd have to run wire back in from there. So it's a long way to
go and lot of extra parts expense for a thing that is already
mostly where I need it.
But I was also wondering about the upfitter switch panels
themselves. Might it be possible, if I choose the right panel,
to isolate the contacts and indicator light in one of the "aux"
switches and re-purpose them. Or if they're all just momentary
contacts, could I cut one out and mount a real switch in its place.
And of course would still need the traction control and tow mode
switches to retain their normal OEM function.
Or maybe even just modify the original switch panel, which works
fine and appears to have unused space(s).
Don't need any of this stuff to show up on the Uconnect screen,
as it would (hopefully) all be hardwired to its specific function.
So I'm looking for a sanity check on some of this before I dive in.
I know some of y'all have been into the dashboard pretty deep,
what do you think?
