I looking at ordering a new truck. Is the factory tonneau cover worth it on the 5'7 bed or is there another brand that is better/worth it. Ideally I want to be able to keep the contents mostly dry. My neighbor got a new truck and the cover looked like it there was a gap between the tailgate and cover where water could get it. Not sure if it that was normal or it was missing a weather strip.

Thanks!

I am a much bigger fan of the hard rolling covers than I am of the tri-fold or soft rolling ones.

Are you ordering the MFT? if so, that really limits which cover you can get. I have the Truxedo Sentry and it does a pretty good job of keeping the water out (2 car washes so far since picking up the truck). There is a slight gap at the front bulkhead which I plan to buy a different seal, the one that came with the cover is too low-profile, but it seals perfect at the tailgate.

If I did not have the MFT I would personally get the BAK Revolver X4s. I've had previous versions of this cover and never had an issue. I would have gotten it again in a heartbeat if I didn't have the MFT.

I wasnt planning on the MFT, all though its intriguing. :) Thanks for your input!!

I have the MFT only because the truck I ordered was going on 4 months with no VIN and no idea when it would be built, so I ended up finding a truck nearby that was very similar, just no Rambox and had the MFT.

Currently I find it a little gimmicky, but I think I'll get used to it for putting groceries or other "city" truck uses and not having to lean over the tailgate. At this point in time I wouldn't recommend it, but I also wouldn't recommend not to get it other than it really limits your choice of tonneau cover without doing some structural changes.

It's also super helpful for getting in and out of a truck vs the regular tailgate, even if you have the step. I don't have the step and don't find it necessary at all with the MFT tailgate, I can run up into the bed with a short hop up onto the bumper step if I have to. Couldn't do that with any of my prior trucks. My truck has a decent amount of what I call "fancy options" but my favorite feature by far (especially during summer) is the MFT. Of course, this usefulness will vary depending on what the owners usage is of the vehicle.

As for the cover question by the OP, I have the factory one and prefer it to the cheaper aftermarket ones I've had in the past. The more expensive ones are surely nicer but I've never invested much into one, and for the price of the factory one I'm sure there are better options out there. The factory cover has better release latches than I am used to, and keeps the bed about as dry as all of my previous covers (almost completely, little water in by the tailgate but not enough to be concerned with my contents back there). I'm sure I could seal it up better back there as others have done, but I'm happy enough with the protection it provides.

I'm sure you will get plenty of input on the factory cover vs aftermarket from others on here.
