I hit a tiny pothole this morning - 90% sure it was just a regular closed manhole - while driving in the snow with truck in 4-Auto. All of a sudden the ESC error message popped on the dashboard, traction control went off, and the truck started accelerating on its own. I was only a mile from my destination so I rode the brakes. Essentially if I tap the brakes the truck stops trying to accelerate - it essentially coasts with minimal braking. The moment that I take my foot off of the brake, it starts accelerating rapidly until I tap the brake again.
I was driving my 80yr old mother to a doctor appointment. After dropping her off, the truck was relatively back to normal except that the check engine light was on - no unintended acceleration. I popped into a store, came out, and it was just the check engine light again. After picking my mother up again, the ESC was malfunctioning again and the truck was back to accelerating on its own. I dropped her off, removed the Pedal Commander (no problems over the past year), came back out, and it accelerated on its own all the way to the dealership. After stopping there, it went back to just the check engine light again.
The nearest dealership said that they couldn't look at it for a month (booked). The dealer that I bought it from said that their lot is full, they aren't accepting drop-offs, but could look at it in two weeks. I made that appointment for now.
Obviously this thing isn't safe to drive when it's accelerating on its own in the snow. I'll try a few things but otherwise will have to rent a car for now. Thoughts on what to do? I'm going to disconnect the battery for 20min and try to do a hard re-start. I couldn't find much info except that the ESC problem could be related to a speed sensor. Since I drove over the manhole with the right front wheel, I assume that is where the problem started.
The truck has 67k miles and I have the extended warranty, thankfully. Still waiting for the dealer to come up with the parts to fix both broken exhaust manifolds!
