So if I put the little shift button on the steering wheel into 8 ,it stops the ECO mode (light) from enabling. I did not turn the light off in the larger display . Does this setting change anything else other than preventing the ECO (cylinder deactivation)? My thinking was maybe this setting is better for the engine as I ve read lifters can have issues long term in the ECO mode? I also read that turning the ECO OFF in the larger screen only shuts the light and not the system?
Someone brought it up on the Mustang forum of all places, LOL.
Figured I get better answers/opinions here.

I looked in the manual and did a search but didn t see anything much.

Yes, turning off the setting only turns off the light. Putting it 8 does turn off MDS. Doubt there is any benefits other than decreased fuel economy. It's been discussed many times on here.

OK, thanks, I ll have to find the thread.

I hit the gear limiter every time, have not noticed any real difference in fuel economy, then again it is rebel with 3.92 gears.
does hitting the gear limiter also prevent the auto/stop/start? It seems to have , and the auto stop start light was still OFF???

Correct, the Eco light just lets you know you are in 4-cylinder mode, it's actually off by default.

Locking the tranny in 8th gear just prevents MDS operation, does nothing else. However, you will need to do this every time you restart or change out of drive if you want to stay in this condition.

The other option is being on Tow/Haul mode, which also turns off MDS. This mode also holds the upshift longer when accelerating, and when braking, it will not upshift even when coasting until you press on the accelerator again, this is very similar to a sport mode, but without the throttle pedal ratio changing.

in the last two days of driving (no AC) or anything ON to prevent auto stop/start, when locking it into 8 the auto stop start has not engaged once?
