DIY programming key fob part

I used jscan on my android phone metropcs with obd mx Bluetooth dongle... took 5 minutes and purchased key fobs from Amazon. I use toyota techstream on my laptop for toyota keys programing. I lost my Ram key in the house which I will find in one year or two, lost my motorcycle key and found it the next year cutting the grass in the lawn. I purchased a key cutting machine/ reader for cutting the blade. I worked overtime to justify the purchase bc I don't do dealerships and do everything myself pretty much. I have 3 fob programmed now and plan to play with the new key machine starting with making house keys first.

I learned about the jscan and bypass cable method for DIY key fob programming credited to @Jimmy07

now he mentioned an ebay fob that looks not so great in terms of build quality

can I use this one instead to do the program? or I have to buy specific aftermarket fob?

I don't see a reason you couldn't use this FOB. Looks like 99.1% feedback for the ebay seller with over 138K responding. If the additional $30 plus for the OEM FOB gives you peace of mind that is not a high cost.

Last time I looked on line the OEM FOB was $170 with an MSRP of $255.

I used one OEM key FOB for more then 6 years. The corner wore and had a small tear because I would place the FOB in my pocket the same way each time. I replaced the FOB cover with an after market FOB and it is showing signs of wear already and I also had the chrome like trim come off in my pocket. It's easy enough to clip back on but that never happened with my OEM.

I'm not aware of anyone on this forum complaining about the ebay key FOBS. Time will tell for me how much of a difference there is in the OEM vs aftermarket FOBS.

thanks, I was wondering if THAT specific aftermarket fob is needed for jscan to work. Maybe I am overthinking it, a fob is a fob, it should talk to the truck the same way for it to be functional.

As long as it's a new, unused OE FOB, or from one of the known sellers, (mine was nasse_4407), JScan can program it.

Where folks got into trouble was buying reman OE FOBs that hadn't been properly reset or counterfeit OE FOBs.

I bought the $25 ebay fob Jimmy suggested a year ago and it looks great and works
