I did a write up 8 years ago on the RamForumz about a mod for the 3rd and 4th gen RAM's air box.

Here is my version of the air box mod for the 5th gen air box.

The mod consist of adding a 3" aluminum flex tube to the bottom of the air box
using a modified 3" PVC drain grate (cut out the grate).
Then route the flex tube behind the bumper the parts are from Lowes.

1. Loosen the 6 screws holding the air box lid and the hose clamp
2. Remove the air silencer pad inside the lid for better air flow (held in with plastic rivets).
3. Lift lower air box up from the 3 rubber studs holding it in place.
4. Drill a 3" hole in the front bottom corner of the air box then put in the modified drain grate.
5. Slide on the 3" flex tube over the stub of the drain grate then use a 3" hose clamp to secure it.
6. Optional - Paint the flex tube Black
7. Put the lower air box back in the truck and route the 3" tube between the frame and the radiator hose.
8. Position the lower end of the flex tube above the active air dam and behind the tow hook cover in the bumper.
9. Optional - Modify the tow hook bumper cover to allow air flow into the end of the flex tube.
10. Optional - Replace stock air filter with K&N or any high flow aftermarket drop in air filter.
11. Enjoy the extra air flow into the air box and the slight increase of induction sound.

Nice write up. Thank you.

Seems like this might void some warranties??

No issues with water unless you are driving through a flooded road.
I've done this same mod on previous gen IV RAMs without issue.
Plus side is a slight bump in mileage and increase with induction sound.

What kind of mileage change are you seeing? MPG is great but more HP would be even better.

If your worried about voiding a warrant, go to the stealership, pay way too much for a Mopar CAI and another $100 or so for install.

It'd also be a good idea to become and educated vehicle owner and read up on the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act in order to alleviate further paranoia about voiding warranties.

You're not wrong; unfortunately, it takes a lawyer to then refute the claim when they deny it, even if the onus is on them to prove it. Eventually, you may win then get reimbursed the $10k in lawyer fees and get warranty coverage on a repair; but that is a lot of money to put on hold until the case is settled.

Any updates on this mod? Thinking about doing it soon.
