Has anyone bought the MDS Manager from Range Technology? I'm thinking of getting this because having to disable each time I put in drive is annoying.

Amazon reviews aren't to promising. Could always buy from Amazon and return if not satisfied.

I always disabled my MDS due to my aftermarket exhaust, but there are some opinions that MDS actually improves upper valve-train oiling when active. If that's the case, I rather have it function.

The permanent method is to remove the solenoids and install the "block offs" that are available for manual transmission challengers...but that involves tearing the intake and a few other things off the top of the motor.
I say "block offs" because they just stop the oil from ending up on top of the lifter galley and direct it to the lifter bores to splash onto the cam. You can find some videos on youtube to further explain.

After you do it for a while it becomes second nature. If you let it get up to 8th gear on it's own you only need to press gear down once

The reviews I read on Amazon say to buy it directly from Range Technology because the Amazon units don't work. One even suspects they are Chinese knock-offs. Amazon is becoming the new ebay for me. It's okay for some things, but buyer beware.

Currently there is no MDS disabler available for 5th Gen Rams; including Range Technology.
It seems as if the 5th Gen's are real bugger to permanently disable the MDS system.
There's going to be a run on the steering wheel 'gear limit' buttons in another year or so.

+/- on the Steering Wheel, simple as that, and its included with your truck already! LOL

I've used diablosport i3 and hptuners to disable MDS in the PCM. Hptuners has some specific values you can alter as well, like minimum enable speed ,etc.

Both of these options require an unlocked PCM. Once disabled, you can remove the solenoids and install the block offs if you'd like, but I usually just leave them and leave them disabled..even if the solenoids are unplugged, the default to standard/v8 operation. no harm leaving them . I have over 100k on a junkyard motor and still has them unplugged.

When I bought my truck I thought I would probably end up defeating MDS because I liked the performance of the 5.7 hemi on my last truck. My thinking was that MDS would impede the performance I wanted. I decided to wait until after the break-in period to defeat MDS. By the time I had 300 miles on the engine I realized MDS had very little impact (if any) on the performance I wanted. It seems to only kick-in when I'm maintaining a highway speed and slowing down. When I want power it gives it to me. So for now I'm not going to change anything.

yeah I have some long, slow roads in and out of my neighborhood, and I hated the constant enable / disable feeling. if it weren't for that, I'd probably be fine with it.

I see the light come on/off but I don't feel a difference. I just stopped paying attention to the light.

On further look, you are right. There is not one yet. Bummer, I would gladly pay $200 for it. I live in a town where there is long slow roads at 30 & 40 MPH. It is constantly going back and forth. It is noticeable to me.

I don’t mind the mds. When I’m in the city doing 45 to 55 I make 30+ mpg.

Yep. I've been looking since last summer. I'm one of those people who despises MDS. It's flat where I live so MDS kicks on/off a lot. I notice it very much and hate the 'lugging' the engine does to try to hold MDS before it kicks back to 8 cylinders. Not worth the 1mpg improvement for me.

Someone here said you can disable MDS by engaging tow mode. This is what I was going to do until I realized MDS was not an issue for me.

That's true for 5th gens, but running in tow mode changes shift points in a way that negatively affects fuel economy more than just disabling MDS with the +/- buttons.

I guess I'll be using the buttons until one is manufactured. It's just a pain since I go on many short trips around my city. I know, 1st world problems.
