Hey all, just picked up a special-ordered 2019 Ram Big Horn after getting back from Afghanistan and I LOVE it, and got what I thought was a great deal on it.

Fast forward two weeks and I head to go camping with a friend and he has a 2017 Laramie which he says he only paid $1500 more than I did (at the time). His truck has so much more than mine, so I'm here for a sanity check haha

I upgraded my Big Horn with the 3.55, uConnect 8.4 inch, sport package, Alpine sound, black rims, and Katzkin leather. Now that I look at the build/price tool I essentially built a Laramie (minus the laramie-specific features).

Anyway, what do you guys think? Are you happy with the big horns or did my salesman fail me by not noticing I essentially ordered a wanna-be Laramie?

etherune,

Welcome to the forum!!!

First let me say, I have a Bighorn and I LOVE IT!!!!!

You also need to just try to compare apple to apple as close as you can. Couple of pointers I can think of (as I am sure others will chime in):
-You are looking at brand new vehicle 2019 vs 2017 ---2 years different so prices gonna be different
-You should look at a 2019 base price Laramie and see what deals are out there to compare it closer vs different models
-If you are that unhappy go back to your sales rep and see what they can do to upgrade you into a base model Laramie
-Should the sales rep tried to upgrade you...well yes that is "most" profitable way to upsale but once you start adding on tons of upgrades to a lower based model from the start you will run into prices comparison that you should have looked at as well.

Welcome back from Afghanistan!!!

I think a 2019 Laramie would be a lot more than a 2017; so there is no comparison there. I have a basic, personal rule; never discuss money with friends....I am much more happy living by that rule. You bought the truck; you own the truck; now enjoy the truck without looking back. You can ALWAYS find a better deal than what you got and paid for, but you have to make the decision at some point. You made the decision so just live with it and make the very best of it.

If your happy with your truck don't look back. If you shopped for a larime its its likely you still would have wanted some upgrades. IE sport package, premium sound....And the price would have creeped up.... Sounds like you have a nice truck and well deserved. Thankyou for your service!

Use the build utility on the Ram website, that will tell you how different your prices are for current. For a Big Horn with the level 2 equipment group, you start to get close to base Laramie price.
It just depends on what you want in the truck, if you're happy with the options in your Big Horn then be happy.
For the way I wanted a Big Horn configured(almost loaded, no safety package), I got into a Laramie for not much more. I would have had to have custom ordered the Big Horn, I probably got a better deal and gave up a couple of things for a truck that had been on the lot for a couple months but has more "nice to haves."

Yea I was on the fence but ended up special ordering a loaded big horn which did cost more then a lot of Laramies on the lot. I don't care for leather seats and I think the dash looks fine without the leather probably more durable in the long run as leather cracks with time. Also I prefer to not have the wheel flares with stock tires/rims. Makes the tires appear more sunk into the body.

I love mine too!!

I like the cloth seats as well. Plus, I don't think the Laramie leather seats are anything special. I don't mind the the fender flares, but I do think the sport hood is pretty goofy looking IMO. I know you can delete it of you special order it...

I wouldnt overthink it too much if I were you. Just enjoy it!

1) Thank you for your service. At least I presume you were overseas serving Uncle Sam and all of us and not on a vacation?
2) Just enjoy your truck.

I've only learned a couple of things in life, but one of them is that there is always gonna be someone with a better/faster/cooler/badder vehicle than mine. Trying to chase that down is a losing bet.

You ordered the truck they way you wanted it, be happy and don’t worry about others. Now let us see pics of the truck.

Had the same dilemma. I test drove a couple 2017 Laramies that was roughly the same price as the 19 Bighorn/Lonestar (after rebates etc) new. True the Laramie has upgraded leather and electronics etc but after driving the 5th gen is was no comparison. The ride alone sold it! Of course I wanted leather etc, but after all, it is a TRUCK!

Did you order through MAS (Military Auto Source) while over there? I can tell you that if you did, it's not necessarily a bad deal at all, but there are better deals to be had if you came back to the states and shopped around. If you didn't then disregard. Personally, I had a 2020 RAM 1500 Laramie lined up through MAS but couldn't pull the trigger in the end because of the great deals I was finding on the 2019's which is what I went with. But even now I see better deals than what I got but as it's already been said, you can't stress over that. I got exactly what I wanted at a good price and I'm going to be happy.

That makes me feel better, thanks for the input !

I started with MAS but ended up sending the quote to a local dealer and he beat it by almost $4,000. I don't feel like I got bad deal at all, but after I got it I started to notice that the Laramie was about the same price as my big Horn after all the upgrades I put on it.

As requested! I think the Katzkin leather looks and feels better than the standard Laramie

I was. Army. Uncle Sam has built quite a lot of infrastructure over there (along with all the destroying of it).
I appreciate the advice!
