Curt 56584 5-pin question

Hey all,
I am looking to use the Curt 56584 5-pin adapter and a 5-way flat harness for some aux reverse lights.
My question is do i connect the 5-way flat harness's ground lead and the LED ground leads together or attach them both to the frame? And for my education....why?

You can attach the 2 grounds together without attaching them to the frame.
