I have a 2021 1500 3.6. The water pump was replaced a couple weeks ago after a leak, and ever since the fan runs on high 80% of the time.
Before the pump replacement, I rarely ever heard the fan and temps were commonly over 200. Mechanic claims fan is "cooling and doing what it's supposed to do" (I understand this is technically true, but it seems to be excessively cooling). Mechanic confirmed an OEM pump was installed.
I plan to take it back to the mechanic once more before shopping elsewhere, but hoping to educate myself a bit so I can understand what is happening and give a proper report to the mechanic.
Any thoughts on what is happening? TIA
- Fan spins freely when engine is cold.
- First drive of the day, fan is off for about 15 mins while engine warms up. (ambient temps currently around 60)
- Once temps hit 180-185, fan runs high pretty much nonstop. Temp never really exceeds 190-195.
