I’ve seen several threads of people deleting chrome on their vehicles. I’m currently buying a new grille and having the bumpers and mirror covers painted shortly. I’m just curious about the door and tailgate handle trim, and the upper grille portion (I’m guessing that is what it’s called) I tried putting black reflective vinyl over the door handle trim and didn’t like the way it looked. My question is, is there anyone who has successfully removed and painted these pieces and if so how did you do it?

Take a look at hyper-dip (https://www.dipyourcar.com/). It is a new version of plasti-dip that goes on much nicer. I've done a few smaller parts with it and think it goes on nice. Can't speak to the long term durability of it on a grill or door handle but I think that is par for the course with any peel-able or wrap.

I plasti-dipped all of my chrome, looks factory imo. Just have to be careful about stuff hitting it or it'll gouge it up. It took lots of painters tape to make the job clean. For the door handles I used some black plastic covers. They fit like a glove.

I have a billet silver as well, and I don’t mind that little bit of chrome on the door handles and grill since it blends nicely.
If it were any other color I’d def black those out though.

I can’t speak on the door handle inserts as i
That’s about the only chrome I left on my truck. But I did have my grill painted at a reputable body shop and it turned out great.

Not a Ram but I took our Navigator and blacked out all the chrome ... I wasn't so sure about the little strips on the door handles, but I think it turned out really well. I'm at a loss for pics right now ... broke up the slab sided white look.

That came out great and is something that I am looking at doing. Mind if I ask what you paid? I have also thought about vinyl wrapping all of the chrome but I imagine paint would hold up better long term.

It cost me around $800 Canadian to get the grill surround painted as well as the chrome trim along the side on the limited

Did you ever find a good way to paint the chrome on handles and bed handle?

You can use plastidip. Not the most permanent solution but you can go back to stock look easily.
