I've been looking at used Rams, mostly at dealers. How would I verify that the warranty was still intact if it's not a Dodge dealership? My fear would be buying something that someone had unknowingly tuned or used a programmer on....then it breaks on me, I go to the dealer for warranty claim, and they say it's voided because it's been messed with. How can I protect myself against that?

I don't know of any way of protecting yourself from that. It's just one of the chances you're taking by buying a used vehicle. You really never know what the previous owner(s) did to it. You're playing the odds, but you can skew them in your favor somewhat by finding a used vehicle that appears to be bone stock, or as close as you can get to that. It's less likely someone put a tune on a vehicle that has no aftermarket parts. It's always possible that they just swapped all the stock parts back on, but like I said, you're playing the odds. Definitely stay away from a vehicle that has lots of aftermarket parts on it if you're worried about a tune being the cause of the factory warranty being voided for some failure you might have in the future.

I don’t see why you couldn’t call your local dealer with the VIN and ask them to check if the warranty is still valid

Don't sweat it. I bought my 2019 Ram CPO from a Toyota dealership. As long as you look into the truck and don't see anything peculiar or anything that doesn't look like it doesn't belong you'll be fine. Plus. After you buy it...take it to a Ram dealer... they'll look over it for you for free. That's what I did. Hell...I even had them update my transmission software at no charge. Mileage and year is going to determine whether or not you have full warranty still or just powertrain.
