Just drove a new 2019 rebel off the lot a week ago and today it wouldn't go past 3rd gear and was reving hella high...anyone else experience this? is there a breaking in period on new trucks? first time buying a brand new car/truck and for $65k, i wasn't expecting zero issues this early on.....

Hope you just accidentally hit a gear limiter

Did you get stuck in 3rd gear, so no 2nd or first, or were you limited to 3rd gear?

My guess is you accidentally pressed the gear limit buttons on the steering wheel. Really easy to accidentally do this. If you are cruising in 3rd gear and press the (-) button, you will be limited to 3rd gear unless you press the (+) button. You will see the gear limit options on your screen on the right side of the auto selector in the gauge.

It shouldn’t be getting stuck in a gear. Get it to the dealer ASAP.

it would drop back down to 1st and 2nd when I’d slow down or stop but wouldn’t go past 3rd speeding up, it would just stay in 3rd and rev. After parking and restarting it worked fine. So, with the limit button, does it limit to max at 3rd or just stays strictly in 3rd?

I assumed he may have tried turning off and back on again. Troubleshooting 101. :D

Anyway, yeah, hopefully it was just the limiter that was hit.

It will limit you to 3rd gear as your highest gear, but will still downshift as per normal. I’ve done it once as well... you don’t get very far in first gear. Thankfully the engine was already warm, but it happens. :)

It limits to whatever gear you are in when you initially press the -ve button and you can then increase it using the +ve. And then decrease/increase with buttons as you like.
I use it to turn MDS off and usually wait until I am at speed and in high gear to reduce button presses.
I seem to remember you have to set uConnect to show your current gear but I guess you've already done that.

I want to put a genuine thank you out there to all the swift responses. Had a Silverado for years, loved it, but it wasn’t nearly as pretty as my rebel. Looking forward to being part of this community for years to come!

Best is to enable cluster to show current gear, by default it was off in my truck, and then it easy to use gear limit function or just to know in what gear you are at any time. Once you switch from D to P gear limit is disabled/defaulted.

Yup, it was the gear selector limit buttons on the right side of your steering wheel. The reason why it worked after you turned it off is because the gear selector resets to off every-time you turn off the truck.

The way it works is you use the minus (-) and plus (+) buttons to select a gear you want to limit the transmission to. Such as when you are going up a slight incline in 8th gear but don't want to push your throttle down, you can simple push the minus button down to 7th or 6th so it downshifts.

I usually set mine to 8th gear when I start the truck to avoid having the MDS turn on. That's what a lot of us use the selector for, to prevent MDS operation. You simply put it in 8th gear so you have the full range of the transmission.

But you can activate it anytime, say you are cruising in 4th gear on the street, you press the minus button once, it will set the limit to your current gear, which is 4th. Then press the plus button to choose a higher gear if you want, say 8th gear. However, if you press minus again, it will drop you down to 3rd gear and your revs will go up.

Just play with the buttons next time you drive your truck to get a feel to what they do. Also consider reading the manual, it may have a few more tips for you, at page 312: https://5thgenrams.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/2019-RAM-1500_All_New-OM-3rd_R2.pdf
