Bed gussets near the cab

Does anyone know what the black cast aluminum gussets are that are bolted in the front of the bed? I have the 60/40 tailgate without the RamBox option. These have 4 bolts holding them on. Thanks for any help on this.

Are you referring to the braces in the front of the bed? If so they are for added strength due to the weight of the split tailgate on the vertical flex of the bed sides.

Ok thank you. I was assuming that but not 100% sure. They don't allow for a tonneau cover without removing them which stinks.
