Battery died again

Changed the battery when the truck was 2 years old. 2 days ago it got very cold here in Tennessee and I didn't drive it for 3 days or so. After the snow fall I needed to check the mail so I tried to start the truck. The battery was dead as a door knob. All my tools were in the back of the body, with no power I couldn't open the tailgate.

So I took the wife's jeep to the parts store, bought a cheap ratchet set and a new battery.
The battery I removed was exactly 12 months old. $350 - Bummer.

Do the rams eat batteries? Or are these glass pack batteries junk?

Of course the receipt was left in a box somewhere so I had to buy another battery again.

The new receipt was left in the glove box. I won't lose this receipt!

Had all kinds of check engine alarms when it fired up. After 5 restarts they all went away and the truck is happy again. Got to love modern vehicles!

what kind of battery was it? agm or liquid

a lot of us here keep some kind of battery tender on the battery when we do not use the truck for a few days

some of these trucks have a parasitic draw that have been hard to find

do you have power running boards? i've noticed that manually deploying them and shutting the truck off too quickly will result in the vehicle's electronics not properly turning off which kills the battery overnight.

Yes they do. Randomly. The infotainment system is the biggest hog, and it gets woken up when it thinks it detects the FOB. I have to hide the FOBs in faraday bags (which do wear out so test that they still work periodically) to keep it from detecting those. It's helped a bit switching the Infotainment system to "Off" rather than auto-on on start up. But a few weeks ago I came out to find the battery low (but not dead), and then discovered the infotainment system had an update (which of course necessitated getting out of the truck and back in the house to perform the requisite Android Auto update so the phone would talk to the infotainment system again). Then there's also the diagnostics that the deal runs. They fire up all the lights on with the computer download on checkin. But on my last visit I noticed they forgot to disconnect, and half an hour later (waiting for my ride) the lights were still all on. Went and got them to disconnect but yeah...
Crappy replacement batteries don't help either.

No I don't but I have a dash cam that is plugged in full time. The draw on that is like a watch so this can't be the cause. Before I would shut it off when I parked it. The first battery died just the same.
 
If you have an autozone near you, suggest looking at their batteries, they come with a decent replacement warranty
 
Saw a informative video yesterday. When the truck is parked make sure the key fob is at least 50 feet away from the truck. If close the key fob constantly communicates with the truck thinking your gonna start soon and keeps sensors, etc active. Which drains the battery. So if you park in the garage and leave your key in the truck or in The room next to it, expect a dead battery.

Yep, that’s what the post #4 was talking about.
21K miles, new in Aug 2023, no battery issues.
I’ve left mine in cold weather airport parking for 7 days…no issues.
In my driveway in cold/snowy temps, 3-4 days, no issues.

I have a Jeep Wrangler I drive when it’s snowy and icy…or, it’s sunny and warm days on end.

I’ll be picking up an AGM from Advanced Auto once mine does poop the bed… but no issues so far, less than 2 years later.
 
I have absolutely lucked out. My Titan went through liquid batteries every 1-1.5 years until I went fully sealed. My Ram's battery is the OEM from Nov 2019 when they built it. It's definitely on its last legs, because if it sits for more than a day it's sluggish to start, but I'm running this thing until it gives up. I've never had a battery last this long.
