If your rig has this feature, at what speed do your automatic door locks activate?

Mine randomly activate at various speeds. Sometimes its 15 mph other times it as high 35 mph but never higher.
So is this normal? (Whatever normal is)
I guess I think it should be at the same speed all the time.
What is your experience?

Just a random curiosity question…
Thanks...

Manual states they should lock once you exceed 15mph and that seems to be how mine act. Maybe you're to fast on the gas so the system can't keep up and you're at 35 when it gets to the command

I hadn't really paid attention. My owners manual says once you are over 15mph, so maybe there is a time delay also associated such that it could be over 15mph by the time it actuates.

Yep, if you are going from 0 to 35 in a second, they will activate at 15, but you might here then at 35. Mine do at 15, but if I accelerate faster, it appears later.

Mine wait to lock long enough that I get indents in my arm as it rests on the door.
I generally hit the lock key.
My taller buddy while sitting in the passenger seat would rest his arm on the lock, when the locks engaged it would pinch his arm. The first time it happened I said, "Yea, I heard it would do that". The second, third and fourth time I just laughed.

I've never had it happen to me, but I bought a couple of 3/8" plastic plugs from Ace Hardware, just in case.

Mine usually lock around 17-18 mph. Sometimes higher speed. I think it just depends on what else is happening. Auto door locks are a low priority on the bus communication, so if you're still doing ABS self-test or something else more critical, door locks have to wait.

Just curious since that's never happened to me. Do you drive with the windows down? I can't really even get my arm in that position with the window up, which is how I drive 99% of the time.

Yes. It screws off, but you have to break it loose. I think it's glued on.
Does the rod just flop around with the knob removed? I thought the know is what guides it

The unlock rod sits inside of a tube where it exits the top of the door panel and it does move around a little more without the knob, but it doesn't make any noise, if that's what you're concerned about.

I generally don't but sometimes I do.
It doesn't pinch my arm (yet?) but it does jab it until it goes down.
Sometimes I rest my arm up there on a sunny day with the window up.
My seat is kinda far back, and all the way up, think that would affect where you would rest your arm.
It's 100% a first world problem at worst, not even worth complaining about.
Did you remove the actual knob?
I wanted to replace the knobs or ends or whatever but I couldn't find any I like. In theory they just unscrew so they can be replaced, they are like vale stem caps, they shouldn't adjust anything wobbling around.
I guess I could just unscrew mine, its not like I could or would ever even touch them. Surprised they didn't get rid of them to save on $$$ building these trucks lol.

That's exactly my concern lol. What did you get for the plugs?

I was worried about it rattling around too. I was also concerned that once the doors locked themselves, the unlock rod could retract far enough that it would drop below the door panel and fall into the door. Before I installed the plastic plugs, I made sure neither was going to happen.

Here's a link describing the plugs: My Rebel Bit Me!!!!

Perfect thank you.
