Anybody can help me understand if I need/should update my 12'' UConnect 4?

I am suffering from screen freeze at start up. It freezes and then after a while, it works again.
Trying to see if a UConnect update will fix this problem for me. Is my version dated? Seems like the software version is not important and the app version is PR-39.6.0 followed by 20210405, which sounds old.

I saw the latest on this forum is 40.1, should I do it with a USB drive?

The only way a user/owner can update the software is via a USB drive. There are several steps you must follow exactly. Ensure you get the instructions along with the files to update.

Thank you. Is 40.1 the latest we know of? Have you updated to this version? Any issues if you did?

I did upgrade to the 40.1 when I first got my truck (NUSED). I was getting errors loading the XM system. I spent several hours reading/researching the problem and solutions. I was able to locate the files and the instructions. Once I obtained the files and the instructions, I printed out the instructions so that I could read and understand the process and procedures.
Once I got the instructions, I took the time to thoroughly understand the process, then I did the update process. I did not have any problems, but I spent several days researching the process/reading forum messages on the topic, and practicing the procedures a few times.
Once I updated to the 40.1 version, 99% of my problems stopped/went away.
I do not have the files or the instructions, as I reused the drive for other data. Make sure that you use a thumb drive that meets the requirements and the files are expanded in the proper location in the proper file format. This will take a bit of time to complete, make sure the weather is nice, and do not rush the process.
