Android Auto connection error

When using navigation I have always plugged my phone into the nearest usb port. Yesterday on a 10 hour trip the maps screen would go black and I would get a "connection error". I would unplug the usb and plug back in and it would fix for a couple minutes to a couple hours. This has happened a few times in the past but yesterday it did it a lot. I finally changed to the other usb port and the maps stayed on for the remainder of the trip. I don't know if the problem is with the usb port or I just got lucky the last couple hours.

I have issues with mine.
I recently had to restart Android Connect on my phone and it works again, but have issues with our car, so I'm not sure it's not a phone issue.

Update, switching USB ports did not work. After driving for about 10 minutes today the screen went black again.
