Hi All,

Need some input on this one - don't trust my dealer. 2020 Ram 1500 Limited w/ 33k miles.

6 months ago I noticed my air compressor running frequently. Shortly after that, I noticed a high-pressure relief "hiss" or "blow off" from the rear of the truck, similar to what you'd hear from a commercial truck with air brakes. It would "blow off" in approximately 15-minute intervals with no real pattern.

I let it go for about two months before a terrible whining sound started from the front end. I took it to my dealership which told me the suspension ECU had gone bad, running the pump constantly, which burnt out the pulley for the compressor. On top of that - they had to replace the alternator because it was in the same pulley line as the compressor.

Everything was covered under warranty, thankfully. Two days later - I get a "Please wait, suspension system cooling down" notification (never got this with the original issue) and the same "blow off" sound.

I am super worried that this system is going to fail again and I will be outside of the 36k miles that the warranty allows.

I brought it back to the dealership and they claim "nothing is wrong, no codes" and stated that the "blow off" sound is NORMAL. Mind you, I did not hear this sound once in the first two years of driving this truck.

Any opinions, or advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you,
AJ

I'm quite certain the air suspension compressor is not engine driven.

I think compressor is being used interchangeably in regards to two completely separate systems in the truck. HVAC and Air Ride.

Thanks for the reply, Scap.

I was using 'compressor' solely with regards to the air ride system and I assumed the dealer was too.

With that being said - that makes the alternator replacement seem fishy? If its not belt-driven.

The Air Suspension System has an electric compressor located under the truck, I believe passenger side mid way, enclosed in a housing.
If your dealership replaced any thing under the hood belt driven, it was not Air Suspension related and provided a smoke screen as BS

Thanks for the info guys - they are 100% ********ting me.

I just received a copy of the service report from my last visit. The belt starter generator (BSG) assembly and tensioner pulley were replaced.

SEPARATELY - air suspension compressor assembly was replaced. I have no idea why they would try to hide this.

Again, still concerned that the compressor is going to fail again on my dollar.

THANKS AGAIN FOR THE INSIGHT!
