A very serious question...

Is the 5 liter coyote engine in the F-150 better than the Ram's 5.7 liter hemi, and more broadly, taking into consideration several factors, is the F-150 still the best truck period?

In my mind the Ram is better in every conceivable way, including the engine...

So why are F-150s literally EVERYWHERE?

Have a coyote in my 2024 Mustang GT. It is an awesome motor.

I also had a Ford F-150 in the past with the 3.5 Ecobeast.

Both trucks have their pros and cons.

IMHO, yes. Why? Because it's just so much more robust and beastly in comparison and cranks out massive HP numbers. The 5.7 is dated to put it simple.

F150s are everywhere because it's FORD and they are Americas number one brand. They make the most, they sell the most. It's that simple. But the new Coyote XL variants are insanely hard to beat also because more people are looking for a hot rod truck that isn't all fluff like our creature feature loaded RAMS and/or they don't want to pay extra for some "off road" variant that truly isn't even needed by 99% of people who buy them.

Obviously opinions will be biased on this forum, but a single cab coyote XL was actually number one on my list especially after the 2024 updates. I'm almost certain it's a thought I'll revisit in the future as well.

But as far as the Coyote vs 5.7 Hemi debate, it's not even a contest. Coyote crushes our trucks.

Lastly, FORD has a better warranty and offers more coverage at more locations across the US. Speaking from experience there. Especially with stuff like all the bells and whistles on creature features, LED headlights/taillights, and even rental options. Stellantis just isn't coming close to it especially for the cost.

IMHO, if I was looking for a new truck (1500), it damn sure wouldnt be a RAM. I bought my '22 hoping to avoid the majority of Stellantis crap but that ship sailed around 2019. 4th gens were the last decent 1500s. They murdered Mopar. That goes doubly so for the lack of a V8 being an option, which even for FORD only comes in certain models. And I'd never buy a GM truck, ever. All that said the best truck I ever had was hands down a Tacoma lol. Can't say that about the new ones though. So FORD ftw.

I had a 2015 F150 5.0 with the 6spd, SuperCrew, 4x4, 3.55s, and the Sport package. She was a nice truck, but you better LOVE rpms.. because from idle to 3k it was pretty meh. Daily driving, was alot of fun (especially after I put an exhaust on), got better mileage than the Hemi, and I had zero problems with it..

When towing, she had to sit around 2,500 - 3k to maintain speed with my open car trailer, while the Hemi sat just north of 2k with the same trailer. (3.55s 6spd vs 3.92s 8spd). The truck itself handled the trailer much better than the RAM though.. the RAM sags in the rear badly, requiring more from the WDH, and the Ford just felt more stable than the RAM towing.

Now I'm not sure what the 'new' Coyote drives / feels like with the improvements they've made and the 10spd. I don't think the Hemi is even available anymore.

I HAVE A 5.0 IN MY 2020 MUSTANG. On that forum guys report some pretty high mileages on the 5.0. Just from what I read the 5.0 has less issues, I don t know. I d like to hear from some 5.7 (etorque) high mileage owners. Seems like manifold bolts on low mileage 5.7 are common. I have 15K on my Ram with zero issues so far. Don t trust etorque. Because I m not on the F150 forums I don t know what they are all complaining about. No more hemis in the 1500.

I had a 2015 F150 with the 2.7. On the test drive I was amazed, having come from the v8 world in trucks previously. The XLT trim was relatively cheap and the ride was pleasant. Had a good payload and overall ran fine.

I never would have sold it as far as its performance, gas mileage and overall “truckness”, just needed a downpayment later for a house.

RAM wasn't even on my radar as I’ve had more Fords than any other brand. Never had a bad one since the first, a 1972.

Now if I had kept the 2015 2.7 for say 100K it could have been an issue due to coking, Ford revised the motor in 2018 and fixed that issue: “In 2018, the automaker released the second-generation 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6. It cranked the torque to 400 lb-ft and combined port injection with direct injection. That helped fix one of the 2.7-liter’s earlier problems: carbon buildup.” Motorbiscuit.com.

I only came over to in 2019 due to the automotive press praising the 5th Gen redesign and a test drive which won over wife as far as the ride and interior quality goes (Limited). I was aware of the hemi being “old” but it had enough “go” and without the twin turbos, I felt it may be a better choice for longevity.

To sum it up, peeps often buy what they are familiar with, some buy as they see everyone else with one, or they do their homework and compare stats. Price is in their somewhere, I didnt get a great deal on the 2019 but did on the 2023.

I’d drive any of the US made (mostly) trucks if you gave me one. Not a fanboy or diehard brand loyalist.

Coyote is a good engine. It's better because ford tweaks that engine every 3-4 years. Ram/dodge/stellantis...hasn't touch any internals in the 5.7 since 2014 when they changed the electronic steering and gained 5 hp from the engine.
