Some guys were asking how to mount a 35 inch spare in the spare tire location. First remove the heat shields.

Then you'll have a bare area.

After that your enemy is the rear track bar and on the other side is the tow hitch. You will need to air the spare way down. I'm always airing up and down so I have an air compressor. Then just guide it into place. The tire will be well away from the exhaust so no need to worry about the heat shield. All told it took me a half hour for the whole thing cuz I had to crank the lift and guide the tire at the same time. That was the biggest pain. Easy peasy.

Sheesh, looking under there, you'd never believe a 35 would fit. Glad it works though

I also just wedged my 35 inch tire in there. It’s definitely not coming out easily lol

Not sure what’s a different about the TRX setup, but it comes with a 35” spare (and heat shields) with plenty of room to “spare” haha.
I wonder if TRX heat shields would fit a regular 1500.

It's an interesting point. But I just don't think the shield is needed. But when I look at the Rebel from behind I think I lost some departure.

My 35" Recon grappler fits...sort of. After removal of the heat shields and deflating it down to about 20psi, I was able to wedge it in there. Once I rotate them all through at 5k miles, it should fit easier, lol.

Or, I was considering taking a grinder to the back side of the receiver hitch and knock off about 1/4".

My 35” bfg ko2 fits with the heat shield and no deflating, but required trimming down the back of the hitch about 1/4” without cutting into the weld.

I wanted to see if my AT3 spare would fit better (instead of wedging) if I took off the heat shield. Man it’s tight! I had to air it down to about 10 psi just for it not to touch the rear track bar. Maybe the AT3’s are closer to a true 35inch tire…

Do yall think this is enough clearance?

You should be good. I recently rotated mine after 5k miles and the worn tire fit without airing it down. My recons are actually slightly larger than a 35x12.5 typically is and wider.

i was under my friend's TRX checking out why they can fit a 35 under. I recall the tow hitch receiver assembly has a different part number than my Rebel. I took a pic of it but somehow it didn't get backed up to my amazon photo drive.
from what I remember, the TRX tow hitch assembly has a different shape than the regular DTs. I can be completely wrong because this was over 4 months ago when I looked.

I didn't look at the heat shield.
