Got it, now why does one need another battery for stop/start?

No - the little batter is for stop/stat.

What does the little battery power or do that it's needed?

The smaller little battery has to do with the auto stop start feature on the truck. My understanding is the main battery is used for starting but the smaller one helps maintain consistent voltage to the rest of the truck so that you don't notice a draw on the electrical during the starting procedure.

Be thankful it's not buried under the main battery/into the fender like the Wrangler.....
