2024 Limited with approx 7100 miles. Received it this last Feb and I believe it was built last Nov.Dec. Last Friday I went to use the remote start and it didn’t work. When I did start it manually it was revving, then almost stalling. So I shut it off for a few minutes restarted and everything seemed fine, except I noticed the battery was taking 14.6 volt charge. I drove a few miles the next day and no issues, except I happened to notice it taking 14.6 volts again. In the 10 months I’ve owned it, the most I’ve seen the battery take was 14.2 volts and that was after 1 week or 2 of sitting. The truck is typically used 5-6 days a week.
This morning it stalled and shut off arriving in the parking lot of my appt a few miles away. I heard like a pop, then grinding noise and that was that. I checked the voltage with my jump pack and it was just under 12 volts. With the Jump pack connected, it was still very tough to start and was barely running and super rough running. At this point I just shut itdown and had it towed to the dealership close by. I did have the recall software update done, but that was back November 7th so Im doubting that is the issue. I’m hoping just a bad factory dbattery as I've read on this forum quite a few people having issues with the factory battery after 1-2 years. Otherwise, who knows, RF hub, generator, etc?
We will see. I haven’t looked to see if the factory warranty covers rentals etc. I think my insurance does if this does not.
Disappointing though given its age and mileage.

Not sure if it means anything but I did just happen to get a “health report”update in the Ram app while the dealer has been starting and stopping the engine while diagnosing the truck. The health report says Electronic Throttle Control. ECT failure. It may mean nothing but it does make sense because that’s how I would describe what happened last Friday when I started the truck. The throttle was going up and down on its own.

Okay, I guess the battery voltage etc was not the major issue. The POP AND GRINDING NOISE WAS.
it’s called a broken piston in cylindernumber 7! Soooo, after just 7100 miles I need a new engine.
Had the oil changed at 1000 and 3000 miles.
Any thoughts as to what caused this? Simply a faulty part?

Faulty part, misassembled…
Like anything else mechanical, failure can occur at any time.
Obviously… this is rare, but it can and does happen.
Changing the oil at 1 and 3K had zero effect, unless it was done incorrectly…other than a lighter wallet.

Sucks man…curious as to what the dealer is going to do for you.. as in, how long it’ll be down, if they’ll make a payment, supply a rental, etc.
Good luck to you, hate to hear this.

Had a dropped valve at 40,011 miles and motor replaced. From my conversation with the mechanic who replaced the motor it can go back to the lifter. Lifter to push rod to rocker panel to valves.

Below is a link to videos on the topic if you want to delve into the engine mechanics.

Yeah, oil changes probably have more to do with long term engine reliability, but I really did this to also establish a relationship with the local dealer given this was purchased from Mark Dodge 2000 miles away.
Anyway, yes they have ordered a new long block due to arrive this Friday or Monday. Labor is rated at 22hrs,. They expect to be done by end of next week or beginning of following week.
They gave me a Charger as a goodwill loaner. Pretty decent overall experience so far in what they can do. Hopefully no issues with the new engine/parts and not another faulty part or problem with the install.
Fingers crossed despite my disappointment with a complete engine failure this early in its life.

I think you’re doing alright then… loaner and a reasonable repair window along with holidays here.
Good on that dealer…especially, as you said, purchased 2K miles away.

Did I mention the Charger burns my A$$ right out of the seat on high? My gosh. Have to switch to low less than 3 miles after starting and being in freezing temps. My Limited doesn’t get anywhere near that hot (it’s not bad, but this seat is amazing). Not sure if cloth seats have something to do with it….

A Hemi had a motor issue?????? I thought the hemi was indestructible and never had any issues until the junk garbage good for nothing 6 cyl hurricane came a long.
99.99% are😉

Engine replaced. “Seems” to run fine, the only thing I’m noticing different is starting. It turns just a little bit longer before starting (noticeable to me), but still starts. It used to roar to life every time before when pushing the button to start. Battery voltage is fine as well. Maybe nothing, who knows.

lol, my limited leather seats burn me out of the seat as well as the steering wheel heater. I have to turn them down right away after a remote start. wish they had remote start heat settings like chevy does. you can set those on low, med, high on remote start.

I have a 2020 Hemi, and less than 2 weeks in (800 miles), my motor seized. It turns out it was an assembly issue (break time/weekend/change of shift, etc). There is a reluctor wheel or tone ring attached to the crank to monitor speed, etc, rpm via crank position sensor. Mine broke apart while driving and a piece lodged in one of the rod bearing journals.

Once torn down, all they could find was one bolt holding to the crank...I believe there are 4 needed! This was in October 2020, and I was one day away from lemon-lawing it. Truck has been flawless since, but has less than 30K miles. My Loaner was a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
