Hi forums,
My 2021 Ecodiesel currently has 11,600 miles on the odometer, everything is stock. It has always been serviced at the dealer. I also have the factory extended warranty—MaxCare 7-year/120k with a $200 deductible.

On 04/28, I brought it to a local Ram dealer for a leak. They diagnosed it as an upper timing cover leak, and told me it would be a warranty repair involving replacement of the drip o-ring and the cover.

On 05/07, I picked up the truck after the repair. However, the first thing I noticed was that the truck had a rough idle while sitting in the cabin. The next day, I brought it back to the dealer for a recheck.

The following day, the service advisor (SA) confirmed that the rough idle was abnormal and mentioned they found metal particles in the oil. As a result, the dealer needed to investigate further and file a new warranty claim with MaxCare.

As of today, I called the SA for an update. He told me they submitted the claim last Friday through their internal portal, requesting an engine replacement due to internal engine failure.

I asked the SA how long it would take for MaxCare to approve the claim and how long the overall repair would take, including the engine’s lead time. He said it typically takes about 4–5 days for approval, but it’s difficult to estimate the lead time for the engine to arrive. The actual replacement work would take about 3–4 business days.

I also asked if I could get a rental vehicle covered by FCA while waiting for approval, since I need transportation for work. He said FCA wouldn’t cover rental costs prior to the claim’s approval.

Does anyone have experience with this kind of situation?
