Posting an update to previous post last January. I have 2021 1500 BTS that developed rear window leak at 20k miles. After reading a bunch of threads on this topic, I decided to forgo warranty replacement of the window and bought Captain Tolly’s ($15 Amazon) instead.
Recently we had some decent storms hit (4in rain). No leaks at all thus far.
Of note, my rear panel had no cracks in the plastic.
Hope this info helps others.

What is the "Captain Tollys" I am in the danger zone for both the rear window and the third brake light failures. I am seeking a self-repair option with a proactive approach. I will have to wait for spring but I am seeking parts and solutions for the warmer weather ahead.

Thanks for the help in advance.

I used 3 tubes of Permatex 81730 Flowable Silicone Windshield and Glass Sealer and filled the upper gap of the rear window the full length to the top of the glass. Can’t see it from the ground and no more leaks. Caught my leak early at 35k miles and never gave it a thought to take it to the dealer. Easy quick fix.

I just bought three tubes of Permatex Flowable Silicone as well. Ready to dump them into the window seal, and then I read that this stuff will (or it possibly could) eat the paint and cause rust. Now, the area in question is pretty tight and not visible to anyone really, but y'all think we should be worried? YouTube has several people already doing this fix and haven't came back to report any imperfections or rust, so.....?
I think I'm still doing it....

I haven't looked at mine since I applied it since it doesn't leak anymore.

I can check it this weekend, but I haven't heard anything about the paint issue.

Hmmm...I feel like it will take a while to rust or ruin paint if it does it at all

Since when does silicone eat paint?

Well that was my question, and you're right. I for the life of me can't find the article I read where someone said this stuff "could" damage paint. It wasn't the silicone, but the other ingredients maybe? I clearly cannot back up my statement as I looked for the article. I felt the article was over analytical anyway. However, I have moved past that and am applying this stuff this weekend.

Yeah just food for thought. 90% of when silicone is applied is probably over a painted surface lol. I made that number up but you get it lol.

I agree with you. Thanks for the help! Also, have you done this fix as well? With your window?
