i have a 2019 1500 Limited. 4x4 was acting up, not engaging. 2 nights later, at a stop sign turned right, a big bang and grinding as my rear driver tire locked up and loped in the air. broke all cogs on one diff gear, and broke diff housing as well. Replaced diff, all bearings and seals for pinion and axle shafts. removed transfer case and inspected it. there were a few fresh shavings sitting on top of a component, but no filings in oil at all. larger components appeared to be properly functioning, not sure about the smaller components that the motor hooks into to shift the case... Reinstalled everything, as well as front pass. cv axle that boot was torn. drove 130 miles home and back to work. once i got onto gravel, at a slow roll i pushed 4H, it just flashed yellow, i pushed 2H and it went to 2H. When i got to work, I put it into N and pushed 4L, yellow flash, no stop, pushed 2H, would not go back to 2H. I then pushed 4H, now both 4L and 4H are flashing Yellow as well as the rest of the related dash lights like service 4wd, traction control, cruise control... have unplugged battery everytime i worked on it and been disconnected for extended periods of time. My Emergency brake is now on fulltime, if i put the truck in D or R i can manually shut off e brake, but truck stays in 1st gear, i learn as i go, so i am just assuming it is a safety, or truck thinks it is in 4L??? i replaced front axle actuator, cheapest and easiest, not the problem. Replaced Transfer case shift motor, still doing the same noise. am wondering if shifting mechanism inside case that motor connects to is stuck in a different "time" than the shift motor factory default, or "time" if that could be a possibility or the TCCM is bad, which, i am not an expert, but the possibility of TCCM being bad in theory could have been the culprit of the entire failure. decided to try and lock into 4L as i was turning corner and bang? idk. i am over 4000.00 into it now, and was looking for some help from some more knowledgeable enthusiasts out there. idk how this site works, i hope this time i am posting this in the correct place...

I haven't worked as a mechanic in years, but I just read another thread, where they were discussing 4wd problems, and someone said something about the actuator having to be installed a certain way. I do have a UTV that I know the actuator turns inside, and has to be inserted properly also. Unless a current knowledgeable mechanic chimes in, try YouTube. There seems to be a video on how to replace everything.
