I bought a 2019 Ram 1500 4x4 with 89,000 miles. About two months ago, while driving up a small incline on the highway, I felt a quick jerk. It only happened once, and I honestly thought it was just a bump in the road

A few days later, I was turning from a stoplight and felt the jerk again. This time, the accelerator didn’t respond for about a second, then everything went back to normal. Later that same day, while driving on the highway, the issue happened again—mostly when going up or down hills. It would jerk for a second and then be fine. No warning lights appeared on the dash, and the engine seemed to run fine aside from the jerking.

I brought it to the dealer, and they said there were no codes, but there was a transmission update, which they performed. They test-drove it and said everything was good. However, once I picked it up and drove on the highway, the jerking continued occasionally on inclines or declines—not all the time, just randomly.

I called the dealer, and they said it would be another three weeks before they could look at it again. They had already kept it for three weeks before I picked it up. Frustrated, I took it to a transmission shop, thinking it might be slipping. The shop said it was definitely not a transmission issue because the RPMs don’t change when the problem occurs. They suggested it might be related to the truck’s start/stop function.

They then brought it to another dealership that could look at it immediately. That dealership duplicated the issue, scanned the truck, and found no trouble codes. They suspect it might be an issue with the MDS (Multi-Displacement System). This was three weeks ago, and they still haven’t pinpointed the problem. They opened a ticket with Ram engineering, but there’s still no word on what’s causing it.

The truck can go a few days without acting up, then suddenly start doing it again. If I shut it off, it might be a day or even a week before it happens again. Any ideas? The truck has spent more time in the shop than I’ve been able to drive it.
