Good Evening,

I just wanted to get some of your opinions on the length of the Block Heater Cord that is coming from the factory that is installed in the 2019 Ram 1500's . This was brought to my attention when a customer of mine came into the dealership and showed me how it no longer reaches to the front of the truck. The only way is to hang it out the side of the hood which does not seem right. I would appreciate any insight if anyone else has seen this yet.

Thank you

I haven't got my new 2019 yet but on my 2014 it doesn't reach either but there is a clip that attaches to the fuse box and I just un attach it for the winter and I can get about 5 inches of wire/plug out from under the hood.
Is the 2019 the same way.

I have a 2019 Bighorn and my block heater cord is too short even when unclipped from the fuse box. It is still about 5 inches short. Chrysler doesn't seem to care but my dealer is looking for a solution.

Hello i have the same on my 2019 Big Horn the block heater cord is too short and i just came out of the dealer and they told me that it was made this way so there is no corrosion on the plug so i have to open the hood to plug it in weird answer ....

Yeah this is a ridiculous design. I guess I'll have to buy a three foot extension cord in order to avoid popping my hood multiple times a day. How the hell are you supposed to do that when there's a foot of snow on the hood?!

I order a NOCO Genius GCP1 Black 13-Amp 125V AC Port Plug extension from ebay hasn't shipped yet but it should be here by the time my truck arrives.

What a great idea, my other make car has this from the factory and I like it very much , I never knew (old and dumb) that it would be supplied aftermarket. Mine is also on the way now (amazon.ca) THANKS for posting! (y)(y) What a great site this is !

I looked at it too, but is 16" long enough to get all the way though the bumper?

The fact that we even have to do this is stupid. I'm thinking (without looking at it yet) somewhere in the grill area and maybe extend the wire, this and the mirrors debacle has left me so pissed that if I have to drill a two inch hole in the middle of the grill so be it. Nice truck but FCA, I'm not happy.

Well I went out and measured and there's no way 16" is long enough for my Limited. My grill only has a few hole large enough to squeeze a cord through. I think 3 feet would be about right. So annoying and dumb on FCA'S part.

I purchased one of the marine plugs, On mine i have to wire the 4-6' ft extension cord into it.
Note it has drain hole to be located on the bottom, i might install attached to a tow hook for the winter only , I hate drilling a 1-3/4" hole in the lower grill too.

I installed the marine male plug this afternoon and it looks pretty good to me and semi permanent . Here a few steps I drilled the licence bracket hole 1-3/4' for a tight fit and use an extension cord to the heater plug.

You’ll find if you leave the cord outside and drive on the highway that it can scratch your paint or head light as it did on my old ecodiesel when forgotten outside..

I dunno. Seems prett s.ensible to me. The cord is short enough not to flop around and more important the connection is kept as dry as they could make it.. freezing rain yesterday and it stayed dry. once i figured out to find it i needed to get down low to plug it in. But i think i would Be happier with the short cord.

it’s 9 degrees dropping to -7or 8. Not sure the owner of the long term stay motel is thrilled with me dangling a cord from the second floor.
