Hi folks, Been on the site for a while and have gotten lots of great info but never posted until now, but hoping someone can shed some light on an issue I have.........Really is weird, to me anyway!
I have a 2019 Ram 2500 Laramie Crew cab with the Cummins, totally stock with the exception of a plain aluminum tool box in the bed. I am the original and only owner of the truck. Ever since I bought the truck new, there have been issues with the factory airbag system in the rear not leveling properly after MANY trips to the dealer it was finally "corrected" under warranty, only to have the issue return at random on multiple occasions. In addition to this, the truck eats rear tires (I don't drive aggressively, don't do a lot of heavy hauling or towing and honestly have never even smoked the tires).
All the work on the truck has been done by the same dealer, same technician (experienced tech with 30 yrs at same dealer). He has always told me that something is different about the truck....That his lift has a problem lifting the truck and it seems to be really heavy for some reason. Said his lift handles 3500's and 4500's with no issues but it struggles to lift my truck. I thought it was strange but never looked too much into it..........Until last week.
Short day at work and I decide to take in a small load of short iron from work to save the headache later. I load it up and roll down the road to the scrap yard, pull on to the scale, and see 9850 lbs on the screen!!!!!! I immediately think "holy crap!" I loaded way too much scrap on this load, but it sure doesn't look like that much!!!! So anyway I roll on in, get offloaded and head back over the scales.....9100 lbs empty!!!!! SO stupid me doesn't make the connection to the mechanic telling me the truck is stupid heavy.....I immediately think the scrap yard is trying to screw me!! So thinking I'm going to beat them at their game, I drive 5 miles down the road to a truck stop with a certified cat scale and paid to weigh the truck. 9040 Lbs!!!!! Literally all that is in/on the truck that is not factory is about 250 lbs of toolbox/stuff in the bed and maybe 300 lbs in the cab including my fat *** and my dog.
Thinking I've found why it eats tires and has leveling issues......Has anyone else ever had this issue or heard of it at all? Dealer has no clue, FCA has been no help either, and I can't find much of anything online about similar issues.....All I know is the weight of this 2500 is more that the heaviest 3500, 4500 and 5500's curb weights listed on Ram's site!!!
What could it be? I'm at a loss. I love the truck and have 210,000 miles on it, I'd just really like to know why my truck would be 1500 lbs heavier than the listed max curb weight?1?! Seems crazy, like the frame is stupid thick or something.......
